Family Law is a specialised area of practice and one which requires a particular approach with the responsibility of protecting the interest of the parties to the valuation and in particular to the Court should the matter proceed to a Court hearing.
Colin has completed the Family Law Certificate Course organised by the Australian Property Institute (API) at the University of NSW. The purpose of the course is to improve the competency of valuers working in the area of practice and to ensure that reports comply with Family Law requirements.
Our experience in the preparation of Expert Evidence and Reports began when Colin was employed in Local Government and, from time to time, prepared Expert Evidence for Court hearings.
Courts have imposed Rules for Expert evidence which must be followed in the preparation of a valuation for Family Law Purposes. In addition, the API, of which we are members, has established protocols for the preparation of reports for litigation purposes.
Not all family law matters go to Court, however, we adopt the Court Rules as well as the Protocols of the API in the preparation of Family Law Reports. This ensures the highest standard of reporting to allow transparency. As a consequence we do not prepare “short form” reports for Family Law matters.
The practice accepts instructions as a jointly appointed valuer acting for both parties as well as a single valuer acting for either of the parties.
